Watch Dogs delayed, Ubisoft push release back until 2014

What can only be described as a bit of a strange decision if we look at facts on face value is that Ubisoft has announced that Watch Dogs – the game where we control vigilante Aiden Pearce – has been delayed until 2014 and will no longer serve as a launch title for the upcoming Xbox One and PS4 consoles. The game will also be delayed for current consoles in addition to this meaning that it is not only the next generation versions which are affected.

Ubisoft has cited the reason for the delay in being to “fine tune and polish the experience”.

While I am all for game developers delaying games in order to ensure they are of the best quality for release, I am on the other hand a little stumped at this latest move from Ubisoft given the fact Watch Dogs was heavily marketed as a launch title so much so it was also included in part of a PS4 bundle. It can only be imagined the  loss of revenue this may generate in the long term.

This is not the first time Ubisoft has delayed a game – Rayman Legends was originally expected to be released in November 2012 as a Wii U exclusive and a Wii U launch title and was subsequently delayed until September 2013 in order for the game to be ported to other consoles.

What are your views on Watch Dogs being delayed? Will it change views on purchasing next gen consoles for the moment?
