Super Mario 3D World: The Rise of the Wii U?
With the one year anniversary since the Wii U launch coming up in a few weeks, it’s time that Nintendo starts pushing out titles that will entice gamers into going the Nintendo route for this generation. One of these new titles include Super Mario 3D World. Announced during the Nintendo Direct @ E3 2013 Presentation, Super Mario 3D World is the newest installment in the 3D Mario series. You may be wondering, “What’s so new about this Mario game?” Well, I’m hear to answer that question for you.
Four Player Multiplayer
Super Mario 3D World brings four player gameplay in a 3D Mario game for the first time, and also brings the return of Peach as a playable character. Similar to Super Mario Bros. 2, Mario, Luigi, Toad and Peach each have unique abilities that will suit different gamers’ playing style. Mario is the all-around balanced character, Luigi is able to jump higher, Toad is able to run faster, and Peach is able to hover through the air.
New Power Ups and Items
Super Mario 3D World also brings all-new power ups. One of these new power ups include a cat power up. The cat power up gives players the ability to scratch and strike enemies and climb up walls. The cat power up even lets players climb up the goal post at the end of each level, giving them an easy 1-up.
Along with new power ups there are also new items. One of the new items in Super Mario 3D World is the Light Box. If you’ve played a Mario game, you’ll know that the ghost mansion levels are always very stressful. With the new light box power up, players will finally be able to defeat ghosts by facing them while wearing the light box. Say goodbye to all the rough times spent trying to get through a level while those nasty Boos get in your way.
Super Mario 3D World also features some online capabilities. Although you can’t play with live players, you are able to collect ghost data from other players. This will give you the opportunity to find secret places that you may not have seen before, or push you to speed run through the level and compare your time versus other players’ times. It may not exactly be the online multiplayer that everyone was hoping for, but at least it’s a way to interact with people around the world (kind of).
Super Mario 3D World is set to be released on November 22, 2013 exclusively on Wii U. As Nintendo releases more trailers for this game, more hype builds up by Nintendo enthusiasts (Including myself). I have a feeling that Super Mario 3D World will make many undecided casual gamers go for the Wii U. As more great games get released on Wii U, Christmas and Early 2014 may be Nintendo’s time to shine.
