Software Emulation Coming to PS4?

Huge rumors have been all over the internet the last week over what could possibly make the PS4 fully backwards compatible.  Eurogamer reports via unnamed sources, that Sony is “pursuing” a way to allow PS1 and PS2 games to run on the PS4 and it could offer some HD visual improvements as well.  This news is huge on top of the announcement of Playstation Now, which will allow PS3 games to be streamed over the internet to PS4’s.

Both Xbox and PS4 are currently not able to play past generation games, but now it is looking like Sony may make that a possibility.  Sony has not directly commented on the emulator rumors, but one as to think if this is true we may find out more information at E3 with the announcement potentially being a show stopper.  Now the question is if Microsoft may look into the same ideas if the Sony backwards compatibility is a hit.

For now we can speculate on if it is true, or how it will work with further rumors stating that it could even emulate through physical media.  This means that if you still own PS1 or PS2 games you may still be able to play them.  Along with that the talk of HD improvements would make the games look even better than they did on the PS3.  What do you think of emulation of next gen consoles?   Are there any games that you would look forward to the most to play?

An 8 core PC couldn’t play PS3 games, it’s architecture is far too complex.

However PS1 and PS2 I could definitely see getting a patch for backwards compatibility!

But hey, they’re is PlayStation Now!

Well it was talked about how during the playstation now announcment that they only said PS3 games. This emulation makes sense since it wouldn’t be streaming and just an added feature. I am super excited to be able to play all of them and to be able to play some of my favorite PS2 games like NFL 2k5 and Tony Hawk.
