GearPop Tech News Roundup: Sony Done with Computers

Sony Selling off Computer Division

That is one less PC manufacturer, which in my eyes is a bad thing.  But more recently I have just noticed the decline in the design of the Vaio compared to when it first came out.  When the Vaio was first released I remember it being a high end laptop that had a lot of features that were ahead of its time.  More recently the Vaio computers have been made of plastic and just don’t seem to be the quality of other PC manufacturer’s.  Good news is the PS4 has at least helped Sony to a profit for the quarter, but things look like they will only get worse before getting better for the company.

Apple looking to bring more Clarity

Apple is at it again trying to bring an even better screen to their products with the patented technology of quantum dots.  Honestly I am starting to not notice differences in screens as much as I used to, so I am not sure how this will work out for them.

Amazon Buys Killer Instinct Developer

Kind of shocking news on this story as Amazon has bought video game developer Double Helix.  Double Helix is known for bringing Killer Instinct back to the Xbox One at launch and was supposed to provide updates to the franchise going forward.  Now it looks like they will no longer be doing that and rumors are running that Amazon is looking to create an Android based gaming platform.  Microsoft has already stated they will look for someone else to provide game updates, but it is unclear is this will cause any delays.

Microsoft may be releasing a Lower Priced Xbox One

This is just a rumor, and Microsoft has stated that they are false, but wouldn’t you if you were still trying to sell the system at its current price?  With the latest release of Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Microsoft saw the game sell more copies on PS4 then on the Xbox One.  Early reports are saying it is 60-40 on the difference for the game with more copies being sold on PS4.  Rumors have said there could be a white Xbox One, One without a Blu-ray drive, a Kinect less console, and one without any disk drive at all.

All of these except maybe the Kinect less console are bad ideas if they are trying to bridge the gap with Sony.  Hopefully, Microsoft can figure it out and bridge the gap, as we know competition is good for the console market.
